Natural sea salt
Extremely low moisture content
Ideal for the Balling method and Balling Light method, Triton dosing and ULNS nutrient systems

With H2Ocean Aquarium Salt you get a natural sea salt for reef aquariums that has been delivering fantastic results for coral lovers all over the world for many years.

With the new H2Ocean Dosing Formula Salt, there is now another version of this high quality reef salt and both formulations are made through a solar evaporation process that creates a completely natural base salt with all major and trace elements in complete balance as nature intended.

The pure natural salt is then specifically enriched for use in the aquarium by adding certain elements that become depleted over time, such as calcium and magnesium, which are used by corals and coralline algae for growth.

H2Ocean dosage formula

The new H2Ocean Dosing Formula Salt has been specifically developed for use in reef aquariums where the primary method of maintaining proper concentrations in the aquarium involves chemical dosing or the use of a calcium reactor.

Using this special formulation allows for intermittent water changes in your aquarium without observing temporary increases in dKH or calcium, making it ideal for Balling, Balling Light or Triton dosing and also suitable for ULNS nutrient-poor systems.

Natural Salt

Its natural origin ensures that the salt naturally contains all 70 major and trace elements in the correct proportions to form a homogeneous mixture.

Balanced formula

In nature, there is a natural balance between calcium, alkalinity and magnesium levels. Many salts have either an unnaturally high calcium content or high alkalinity and therefore these salts require the addition of either additional buffer or additional calcium to restore the natural balance.

With H2Ocean reef salt, calcium and alkalinity are in the right ratio to keep the ion balance in line with natural values, which is so important for healthy coral growth.

The H2Ocean salt formula has been continually developed by DD over many years. The salt is designed to dissolve quickly and easily and has a specific chemistry that we believe is the optimal formulation to maintain a healthy reef and allow for regular water changes while maintaining a natural balance.

The calcium and magnesium content is intended to replace those consumed by coral growth in the aquarium, while the chloride content is slightly reduced
allow subsequent additions of calcium and magnesium chloride with minimal impact on the chloride balance.

Low moisture content

Both H2Ocean reef salt formulations have extremely low moisture content compared to many other salts. This is achieved by producing them under strictly controlled conditions to prevent water from the atmosphere from being absorbed into the salt, so it is now 3% stronger, hence kilo for kilo you get more salt and less water in your backpack.

Magnesium Pro Plus formula

Many salts focus on increasing calcium levels and ignore magnesium levels. Maintaining the correct magnesium concentration is equally important in a reef aquarium and will make it much easier to keep calcium, pH and alkalinity stable.

Application

The amount of brine that can be made from a single bucket of salt depends on the final salinity the brine is mixed with. See the bucket side for details.

For a reef aquarium, we recommend mixing to a salinity of 35.0 ppt and recommend using the DD Portable SEAWATER Refractometer for an accurate and consistent measurement of the salinity of your brine.

The salt should be added to the aquarium when it is clear and after 30 minutes of mixing. Extended mixing times can cause the solution to react with CO2 in the atmosphere and may lead to a slight precipitation of calcium carbonate.

use of reverse osmosis water

H2Ocean Pro Salt is recommended for use with reverse osmosis water or soft water with a calcium content below 30 mg/l.

RO water removes unwanted ions like phosphate and nitrate from your tap water that would otherwise contribute to pesky algae in your aquarium. DD makes a range of RO units to suit any tank size.
