The Maxspect Nano-Tech Anaerobic Blocks for freshwater and saltwater aquariums effectively remove nitrate from the aquarium. The patented technology was specially developed to stimulate the proliferation of anaerobic bacteria.
These anaerobic bacteria close the nitrogen cycle through denitrification by growing heterotrophic anaerobic bacteria (including species of the genera Paracoccus denitrificans and various Pseudomonads) that reduce nitrate to gaseous nitrogen, allowing the nutrients to be exported from the aquarium.
Denitrification is increasingly used to remove nitrogen from sewage, municipal, industrial and agricultural effluents to combat environmental pollution. Various types of denitrification reactors and methods are now in use and are effective in removing nitrates from agricultural wastewater and even manure. This technology has been incorporated into the Maxspect Nano-Tech Anaerobic Blocks in the form of a compact unit that can be perfectly integrated into a technical tank.
The Maxspect Nano-Tech Anaerobic Blocks are carefully manufactured to ensure optimal quality and pore structure that creates ideal living conditions and an ideal environment for the bacterial colonies growing within them. These do not degrade the Anaerobic Blocks . The nano ceramic beads used in the blocks are specially treated with a proprietary technology so that they excel at colonizing heterotrophic, anaerobic bacteria that move in an anoxic environment.

For best results, it is recommended that the denitrification catalyst be changed every 2 months and the Nano-Tech Anaerobic Blocks should be cleaned or replaced every 6 months . However, when cleaning or replacing them, DO NOT replace all of them at once. Only clean or replace half to leave enough bacterial colonies to grow in the newly cleaned or replaced Anaerobic Blocks.
