Developed by Neptune Systems, TRIDENT is an automated testing system that regularly tests the alkalinity, calcium and magnesium levels in your saltwater aquarium and sends the information directly to your Apex controller for alerts and dosing adjustments.
In combination with the DOS (sold separately), a fully automatic system is created for the correct dosage of calcium, magnesium and KH, which are thus kept at a constant level.
HOW TRIDENT WORKS
The Trident is a self-contained automatic titration colorimeter. To explain it more simply, Trident basically automates what you (and top scientists) already do when testing your water, i.e., performing a color change titration and interpreting the results.
The Trident periodically mixes its reagents with a small amount of sample water from your aquarium. It uses a precise peristaltic pump to measure or titrate the amounts required to achieve an expected color change (determined by the electronic colorimeter). Once the titration is complete, this sample/reagent liquid is drained to your waste container. The results of this test are then interpreted and the value logged in your Apex controller.
EASY SETUP AND INSTALLATION
From box to testing in less than 15 minutes! (What do you mean? From unboxing to fully automated testing in less than 15 minutes) Unlike other testing systems, there is no need to mix reagents, cut tubes, or calibrate pumps or probes. Simply connect a cable and two tubes and complete the installation in the Apex Fusion Mobile App. During programming, helpful videos make installation easy.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE TRIDENT:
• Automatically tests seawater for alkalinity, calcium and magnesium
• Up to 24 alkalinity tests per day with an accuracy of +/- 05 dKh
• Up to 12 calcium tests per day with an accuracy of +/- 15 ppm
• Up to 12 magnesium tests per day with an accuracy of +/- 15 ppm
• Only 7.9 ml of sample water per tested parameter
• 7 minutes test time per tested parameter
• Up to four weeks of testing before changing reagents based on baseline testing of 4-Alk, 2-Ca, 2-Mg per day.
• In combination with the DOS system (sold separately), Trident data can be used to automatically increase or decrease the amount of additive dispensed as needed to maintain stability at the user setpoint.
• Wide measuring range:
Alkalinity 5.0 - 15.0 dKH
Calcium 250 - 875 ppm
Magnesium 850 - 1950 ppm
PRECISION WITH EVERY TEST
The Trident tests to an accuracy of +/- 0.05 dKh for alkalinity and 15 ppm for calcium and magnesium. This is more accurate than humans can consistently do with any hobbyist test kit on the market.
WARNING OF UNUSUAL ACTIVITIES
You can set up your Apex to alert you or take immediate action when a parameter goes outside the safety zone you specify. TRIDENT also detects incorrect dosing or overdosing and sets off an alarm that can save your aquarium. The data from Trident can also be used to turn other devices (like dosers or solenoids) on and off to further protect your aquarium.
AUTOMATIC DOSING CONTROL - ULTIMATE STABILITY
The more stable you are at maintaining the correct levels of alkalinity, calcium and magnesium, the better your corals will grow and thrive. However, the level of uptake of these elements by corals changes frequently and not only requires more testing, but also needs to be adjusted regularly.
When combined with one or more Apex DOS systems, the Trident solves this problem with Automatic Dosing Control (ADC).
When configured on the Apex, ADC takes the results received from the Trident and uses them to incrementally increase or decrease the amount of additive your DŌS delivers. With ADC, you set your target value and your initial dosing amount, and ADC only adjusts that dosing level +/- 35%. If more than that dosing amount is required to keep your aquarium at your target value, the Apex will stop ADC, return to your initial dosing amount, and alert you to manually adjust your dosing amount. Then ADC can be re-enabled and will continue to guide your DOS to keep you as close to your target value as possible.
It is possible to use ADC for all three tests - alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. You can also use one test value to adjust up or down more than one additive supplied by the DOS (i.e. Triton system).
LOW REAGENT COSTS
The cost of reagents and recurring costs is a legitimate concern for an aquarist - TRIDENT is designed to keep these costs as low as possible. The reagent is supplied in 2-month kits (based on the standard test schedule of 4-Alk/2-Ca/2-Mg per day). These kits contain two bottles of Reagent A (changed every month), one bottle each of Reagent B and C (changed every two months) and one bottle of a calibrated seawater sample. The reagent kit contains a minimum of 240 alkalinity tests and 120 each of calcium and magnesium.
QUIET OPERATION
You won't notice the Trident in operation unless you listen carefully or have a very quiet room. And compared to other automated test systems, it's several dB quieter. If the device is in your cabinet with your other equipment, you'll probably barely notice it acoustically.
